The Art of Wish touches upon the original concepts of some of the main characters. Star's shift from his early stages is fairly huge. Originally, Star was meant to be more of a shape-shifting "Star Boy." Wish's character art director, Bill Schwab, stated: "I designed a human character, part magical, part glowing, inspired by Peter Pan. I also designed another version with a face with some of the proportions, openness, and charm of Mickey Mouse to bring some of Walt Disney's inspiration to a legacy project." There have even been hints that Star Boy would have been a love interest for Asha.
In the concept art, the canon name for Starboy is Earendel because it means "morning star" or "dawn." It is also the most distant star of all the cosmos, as dawn symbolizes notions of hope and illumination, which is almost matched with Asha, which means "hope."
